Steve Biko died in South Africa on 12 September 1977. He worked hard to end the racist system of apartheid which kept black and white people from mixing.
200 years ago . . .
On 27 September 1822, a Frenchman called Jean-François Champollion proved to the world that he had decoded ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs using the Rosetta Stone. The stone said the same thing in three different languages, one of which was Ancient Greek. Using his understanding of the Greek, Champollion worked out what the Egyptian hieroglyphs represented.
