We can no longer deny it – winter is on its way! The shortest day is less than two months’ away, so it is no wonder that so many festivals this month celebrate light. Many festivals also focus on sweet- tasting food – a sweet treat can be just what you need when you’ve been outside, battling the cold!
There is also all the fun of Bonfire Night to look forward to.
If your family and friends are having a bonfire for Bonfire Night, make sure you protect
any curious hedgehogs who might try and burrow their way into the piles of leaves
and wood. You can stop hedgehogs from doing this by building a small fence with
chicken wire around the edge. And if you do find a hedgehog, put on some gardening gloves (or oven gloves)
before touching its spiky little body. This is also to protect the hedgehog as they don’t like getting the smell of humans on them!
Constellation of the Month
Taurus is the Latin word
for ‘bull’. Look out for this constellation in the east, where it starts the night
low in the sky. If you look
for the bright orange giant star called Aldebaran, that will help you find the rest of the constellation.
