      Recipe for Heart-shaped Biscuits
What better way to show your love for someone than by making these delicious biscuits? (Hopefully they’ll share them with you, too!)
 You will need:
Baking tray Greaseproof paper Large bowl
Electric hand whisk Sieve
Wooden spoon Rolling pin Heart-shaped biscuit cutters (different sizes if possible) Small blunt knife Wire rack
150 g butter (softened)
100 g caster sugar
1 large egg
250 g plain flour plus extra for dusting
1 teaspoon of baking powder
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
150 g icing sugar, sieved
Red or pink food colouring
Sugar sprinkles
1 Preheat the oven to 180°C/
160°C fan/Gas Mark 4 and line a baking tray with greaseproof paper.
2 In the large bowl, whisk together the butter and sugar. When the mixture looks light and creamy, add the egg and mix thoroughly.
3 Sieve the flour, baking powder and salt into the mixture.
4 Add the vanilla extract and mix with the wooden spoon until the mixture looks like dough.
5 Place the dough on a work surface sprinkled with flour and roll to about 1 cm thickness.
6 Use the cutters to cut out hearts and place them on to the lined baking tray (you may need more than one tray, or to cook in batches).
7 Bake for 8–12 minutes, until the hearts are lightly golden around the edges.
8 Put them on the wire rack to cool while you make the icing.
9 Make the icing following the instructions on the packet and add food colouring until you get the shade of red or pink that you want. Save some white icing if you want some white hearts.
10 Spread the icing on to the biscuits with the small, blunt knife and sprinkle on the decorations.
11 Serve once the icing has set. Or put them in a pretty box and give as a gift.
