Tip-Top Toasted Cheese
When you’ve been out and about, toasted cheese is a quick and delicious lunch for a busy day! Some people like to make it under the grill, but toasting your sandwich in a frying pan instead makes it even more tasty!
With a grown-up’s help, slice or grate the cheese. Grated cheese melts faster, but keep your fingers away from the holes on the grater – you don’t want a knuckle sandwich!
Ask your grown-up to heat the oil in a frying pan over a low heat.
Spread butter on one side of both slices of bread. With the buttered side face down, sprinkle or lay the cheese on your bottom slice of bread, then top with the second slice, buttered side facing up.
Ask your grown-up to slide your sandwich into the hot pan with a spatula. Let them cook it for 2-3 minutes on each side, turning it frequently so it doesn’t burn.
Remove from the heat, let it cool, then cut into squares or triangles. Enjoy your toasted cheese and repeat the recipe for more!
You will need:
2 slices of bread
30-40 g cheese (hard cheeses such as: cheddar, red Leicester work well,
or try sliced mozzarella for a streeeetchy sandwich!)
1-2 teaspoons sunflower or rapeseed oil
a knob of unsalted butter
extra bits (optional): sliced ham, tomato,
pear or apple
