Sow a Mini-Meadow
Wildflowers are so pretty, and they are brilliant for bees, butterflies and other wildlife too. You can sow seeds anywhere you can find a little patch of soil in your garden! If you have a sunny spot, try planting flowers like ox-eye daisies, red campion, ragged robin, poppies or cornflowers. In shadier areas, try primroses and bluebells.
Get your patch of garden ready by taking out any stones or roots and raking the soil until it’s nice and crumbly and flat.
Next, mix your seeds with sand so you can see where they are. Then sprinkle them all over your patch. Be careful not to drop them all in one spot though, or they won’t have room to grow.
Now rake the soil to cover your seeds. Keep watering them well until green shoots start to
poke out of
the soil. Your mini-meadow
will soon be
filled with
colour!
You will need:
packets of native British wildflower seeds
a watering can
a rake or a garden fork a small trowel
soil
sand
