Snyde can hurt them, and arrest him. Ms Bright – who has recently been discharged from hospital – arrives at the same time, to see the diamond flying through the air and hitting the ground, where it smashes: it’s a fake.
Now that Snyde has finally been arrested and Emily is safe, Caitlyn returns to Edge and the two sisters are reunited. Emily explains to the children what she believes the fake diamond was for and who left it there, and together they light the lighthouse beacon and wait... and after some time, they see a small boat on the horizon, rowing to the shore. It is Emily’s mum.
Reunited with her daughters, Emily’s mum explains that she survived Snyde’s attack on her, but by the time she had recovered and made her way back home, she found that her two daughters had disappeared, leaving no trace – so she made the museum and its secret clues so that if her daughters ever returned to Edge, they would understand the message that she had left from them and would be able to find their way back to her.
The diamond may not have been real, but Lily has solved the mystery – and reunited Emily with her family.
