Evidence for Bronze Age religion is scarce, but we know people stopped building big ritual spaces like Stonehenge – which isn’t surprising, considering how much effort it took.

Around this period, people started throwing things like swords, axes, tools and even humans into watery places like rivers, streams and bogs.
It is possible that these were offerings to spirits of the earth to bring them good fortune in battle or in life.
   In the Iron Age, it’s likely that Celtic tribes had many gods for different things, like healing, war and crops. But different tribes would have worshipped different gods, so there were a LoT of gods kicking around. A proper god traffic jam.
*Sigh*
   People threw offerings such as
helmets, shields, jewellery and gold coins into rivers and bogs to bring them good luck.
All of this burying and throwing of nice things is all very well, but the Romans accused the Celts of some nasty behaviour . . .
