If you asked an ancient Greek what his favourite pizza topping was or whether he liked cheeseburgers or hotdogs best, he would just have stared at you for a moment . . . then ran away from the scary babbling weirdo (that’s you, by the way).
Bread, vegetables and fruit made up the staple diet of most ancient Greeks, not PrOcEsSeD jUnK fOoD, and there was no rice or potatoes. That’s right. No chips. eVeR. And if you love a sausage, bad luck. The ancient Greeks only ate red meat on special occasions,
such as at weddings or religious festivals.
Come back! It´s just a little sacrifice!
  Oh, and they sAcRiFiCeD the animal first, too. So, you know, eWWW.
  I had a pelican burger at the restaurant last night. You should have seen the size of the bill!

All sorts of birds were eaten, particularly by the rich. Not just chickens, ducks and geese, like we eat today – oh no. They also chomped pigeons, sparrows, thrushes, swans and even, very occasionally, huge-beaked PELICANS!
