Your brain controls your whole body. It’s where you think, feel, learn and remember.
Your brain is very soft, but your hard skull protects it.

Brain stem
Different parts of your brain do different jobs
It is connected to your body by tiny pathways called nerves. Messages travel along these nerves as fast as a racecar!

Spinal cord
Your nerves are joined to the spinal cord which runs down the inside of your spine.
The brain stem controls the things you do that you don’t think about, like breathing and controlling how fast your heart beats.
Other parts of your brain control everything from sight and memory to having ideas or speaking and hearing.
To give your brain a rest, some of it shuts down when you’re asleep. Most people spend about 25 years of their life sleeping!
