There is no one solution to the environmental crisis, and there is much to do. While I’ve written about individual Earth Heroes, they would probably be the first to say that they only achieved what they did with the support and hard work of friends, colleagues and countless others. If we look back in history, most positive change in the world happens when people come together to fight for issues that they care about.
But our individual actions make a difference too. Small steps are just as important as big ones – and everyone can demand change. The task may seem overwhelming sometimes, but we need to play our part. As Greta Thunberg says,
And as well as taking care of nature, take time to enjoy it too. Be amazed by swallows flying thousands of miles from Africa each spring to return to the same nests, be astonished at how a tiny caterpillar can transform into a beautiful butterfly, and be grateful for the miracle of trees absorbing carbon and producing life-giving oxygen. And last but not least, be proud of how humans, who are just as much part of nature as any other species, have created music, poetry, art, technology and medicine. We have achieved incredible things, and now we need to fight for the planet we love.
