                   Marking 100 years since the end of the First World War, Barnsley will be remembering local soldiers who fought in the war and how the conflict left a lasting legacy on the local community.
All events are open to everyone and free, unless stated.

a selection of events happening across the borough, please check in your local community to find out what’s happening near you.

          HOYLAND REMEMBERS
– POPPY INSTALLATION
Hoyland
The community in Hoyland will be coming together to create poppies which will include the names of local fallen soldiers. Each poppy will then be tied to a lamp post. The poppies will start at the Hoyland Milton and Rockingham Cenotaph and spread throughout the village.
Workshops are taking place regularly until the end of October 2018 to create the poppies.
ELSECAR REMEMBERS – POPPY INSTALLATION

Elsecar
The local community in Elsecar have been working together to produce large decorative poppies to decorate the village in remembrance of the
72 soldiers from the area who never returned. Each poppy will represent an individual and be located close to their home in the village. The poppies will be up until 5 December when the last solider from Elsecar died of his wounds.
REMEMBRANCE SERVICE

Elsecar Holy Trinity Church
Service to remember all 72 servicemen from Elsecar who lost their lives in the First World War.
