Music
QEGS provides an abundance and variety of musical opportunities with jazz, rock, funk, blues and classical ensembles constantly evolving.
Musical talents can showcase pupils’ work in a variety of ways, ranging from formal performances and composers’ concerts, to lunchtime recitals and school assemblies.
Every pupil has the opportunity to take individual instrument or singing lessons from a team of over 30 visiting instrumental musicians who work with our vibrant music department to enhance musical provision across the school.
In Years 7 to 9 pupils have timetabled music lessons which stress composition as well as musical knowledge and performance.
Choral groups and concert bands, many of which operate jointly with WGHS, give performances of the highest standard. Groups achieve successes in local and regional competitions with overseas tours also taking place.
Drama
The Drama department is dynamic and is served by excellent facilities including a purpose-built theatre, providing students with the opportunity to develop expertise in both acting onstage and technical design skills backstage.
Drama is taught as a separate subject in the curriculum for the rst three years. In Year 10 pupils have the option of taking a full GCSE in Drama. Sixth Form students can continue their dramatic appreciation through Drama and Theatre Studies at A-level, taught jointly with WGHS.
Each year, major school productions are staged jointly with WGHS. These performances give pupils the chance, not only to develop their acting, but also their front of house management and their backstage skills, taking signi cant responsibility for lighting, scenery design and sound.
