INFORMATION IS POWER
2. Barriers to education:As more and more education
is provided online, individuals who lack the means
necessary to access the Internet (such as kids who have
been limited to remote learning, just as it happened in
2020 because of the COVID-19 epidemic), risk being
cut off from opportunities to enhance their abilities. As
a consequence of this, children may have educational
deficiencies, and adults may fail to take advantage of
work possibilities or fail to acquire the fundamental
skills required to make a positive contribution to their
community.
3. Exacerbating gender Inequality: As was just
mentioned, the digital divide also makes many forms of
discrimination that are already present far more severe.
Discrimination on the basis of genderis one of the most
common forms, in certain parts of the world. If women
do not haveequal access to the Internet, they are unable
to obtain an education or knowledge that would assist
them in challenging their status (and increasing the
likelihood that they will succeed in doing so).
These repercussions are likely going to become even
more severe and pervasive as global dependence on
digital technologies continues to grow. It is necessary
for societies to confront the digital gap in an all-
encompassing manner that takes into account the
myriad of negative repercussions and characteristics it
entails.
