DISPUTING ERRORS
IN ADDITION to navigating the credit game to win as much as possible,
unfortunately, we have to worry about errors on our scorecard.
Whether because of bureaucratic errors or identity theft, we can end
up with charges and derogatory marks on our credit report for
purchases we never made or bills we’ve already paid.
This is one reason why it’s so important to monitor your credit
report and credit score: you can do everything right, and it is still
possible that your score will take a hit which you will need to work to
resolve.
Credit report errors happen often in two basic ways. It’s worth
taking the time to discuss both of them so that you will be well-
equipped to prevent and address them.
IDENTITY THEFT
Identity theft is an increasingly serious problem in the digital age.
More and more online transactions means it’s easier than ever before
for impersonators to steal your credit or identity information, and use
that information to make purchases or open lines of credit in your
name.
