If you want to add any images to your book you can feel free to
use any images you already own or find royalty-free images on
the hundreds of locations across the web. Here is where I’m
going to share with you a cautionary tale.
You may be tempted to simply Google the type of images you’re
looking for and download them directly from Google. Let me
warn you against this. I made this exact mistake 10 years ago
and posted an image of a Home Depot store on one of my own
websites.
Everything was fine for several years, until one day when I got a
certified letter from an attorney who threatened to sue my
company for $50,000 for copyright infringement. Much to my
surprise that the Home Depot image I downloaded was under
copyright by the photographer who took the photo and I was
breaking the law by using the image without paying for the right
to do so.
If I’d only paid the $3 for the rights to use that photo in the first
place instead of just downloading it from Google I’d be in the
clear, but I didn’t and had to go through a lengthy back and forth
