RADICAL LOVE
The Jewish people are still paying the price for this mistake. The son
that was born to Sarah, however, was the result of the promise of God
being faithfully fulfilled.
Dead works, striving, legalism, and dead religion all belong to Hagar,
the slave woman—and many of us in the Body of Christ are still living
like slaves. Instead of working excessively, we need to retreat to a
secret place with God and allow Him to minister His love, bringing
healing to our wounded hearts, so that we may be prepared for the
works of the Kingdom. We need to yield to Him and permit Him to
develop the fruit of the Spirit within us.
All this takes time. There are no shortcuts. And the Lord is asking us to
give Him this time in order to make us into Christ-like witnesses for
His glory.
In the Gospel of John 15:16–17 (NIV), it says: “You did not choose me,
but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—
fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father
will give you.”
As I wrote out this verse, I noticed something for the first time, which
confirms the need for developing the fruit of the Holy Spirit. Firstly,
we were chosen and appointed to bear fruit that will last. These words
came from the mouth of Jesus. He didn’t say we were chosen and
appointed to do miracles or good works. Our primary reason for being
called was to bear fruit—so that we become like Jesus.
