The City of Dyersburg was founded in 1825, and so it has been serving its residents for almost 200 years. As the seat of Dyer County, Dyersburg is the bustling center of activity. The city has a wealth of history and traditions, but it is forward-facing, modern, helping to define what a town can be in the 21st century.
The City of Dyersburg’s goal is to provide and maintain essential services that meet the collective, basic needs
of its citizens and to identify and pursue opportunities
for a greater quality-of-life. That means providing basic services for its over 16,000 residents but also bringing
in and supporting businesses, maintaining parks and recreation centers, creating soccer fields, attracting travel ball teams and tournaments, improving the Downtown Farmers Market with facilities that increase tourism and bring the community together.
During the holidays, Dyersburg hosts the Christmas Parade and Sorghum Valley events. It also hosts the Dyer County Fair, multiple conferences, the Veterans Day Parade, Flag Day events, charity functions, as well as entertainment and trade events.
Dyersburg has a staff of 300 who maintain roads,
offers trash pickup, provides water and sewer services, accountants, administrators, law enforcement, and a host of other jobs.
The city’s contributions to the lives of its citizens include its community involvement. It helps with fundraising and sponsoring non-profit groups and activities, for example, with the Community Cancer Fund, Transitions, and many more.
One of the most important municipalities in West Tennessee, Dyersburg has been undergoing a renaissance. New stores and industry continue to pop up. Downtown has been revitalized, and soon, shops, offices, and the Dyer County Courthouse are undergoing renovations sure to add to Dyersburg’s status as having one of the most charming downtown squares in the Mid-South. Other areas of the city are attracting new businesses.
