Chapter 17
Steve thought he remembered the entire events from the
previous evening. He went over them again and again in
succession. He was certain he could make a continuous
timeline from when they left Maine until present, yet something
definitely happened he couldn’t account for. He went into the
restaurant adjacent to the motel and had breakfast. He waited
for an hour or so and finally Linda and Trash appeared. He
waited until they were packed up and on the road before
approaching the subject.
Trash claimed he needed more rest and lay on the back seat.
Linda, who looked different somehow, sat next to Steve in the
front seat. He tried to sneak looks without gawking to see what
was different. He could swear her hair was longer and lighter
than last night. There was almost no doubt her breasts seemed
bigger and perkier, too. He did not remember her curves being
so pronounced, either. Her complexion seemed to be more
golden with less blemishes. She was more beautiful in every
way than he had remembered. Perhaps it was all in his head.
He got up the courage to address the timeline.
“At any time did I pass out last night?” he asked nervously.
