Chapter 12
As they drove, Steve spotted his sister’s car. Trash slammed on
the breaks and asked him where he saw it.
“Over at 'Bonnie Connie’s'. I think it is ladies book club night.”
Trash cackled and parked the car near a salt-box house,
among many other cars parked there. Connie reluctantly
invited them in. She liked them well enough, but it was a
women’s book club and men just did not understand ‘The
Notebook’. Women, on the other hand, thought this was the
most romantic book ever. Of course they did! A perfectly
healthy man wastes the better part of his life pining away for
an overindulgent self-centered woman. What could be more
romantic than that! At least this was Steve's opinion.
Trash insisted all the women spend a few minutes trying a new
hairspray he had just discovered. They were suspicious at first,
but once they saw he actually had hairspray they could not
refuse a chance to stand in front of a mirror and fix their hair.
Trash watched them. He noticed that if he felt that the
hairstyle was not flattering that the woman would look at him
and then keep playing with their hair. It would amaze him how
different they could each look with a change of hairstyle. Each
one would keep playing with her hair until Trash thought they
