We all need and use personal care products. Sadly, most of our shampoo,
conditioner, hand soap and body wash, toothpaste, lotion – ALL the stuff we use,
are made with over 10,000 chemicals. According to the Environmental Working
Group, on average, the typical person uses 9 personal care products each day,
which is exposing them to over 120 chemicals. What’s worse? Most of these
chemicals bioaccumulate. Because our body doesn’t know how to process the
foreign chemicals, they build up in our tissue. Over time we typically start to
experience health issues. Something as seemingly small as dry skin or a headache
to more serious health issues, as extreme as autoimmune diseases and beyond.
Many, if not all, of the foreign chemicals in our personal care products are
hormone disruptors and even carcinogens - a substance linked to the formation of
cancer cells. The list below are things you should be on the look out for.
