About Voice

For Sharks

I have been passionate about sharks since
before I can remember; as a little kid, I was drawn in
by their raw power and predatorial capabilities, but
also by their air of mystery. These animals are largely
misunderstood, judged by their sharp teeth and
mistaken as man-eating monsters. But what I saw was
ancient beauty, and diversity shaped by over 400
million years of evolution. When I learned about the
threat sharks face in shark finning, something inside
me realized that my mission would be to help shed
light on their plight and help save sharks.
Voice For Sharks was born on Instagram
during the summer of 2019 from a desire to get
involved with the field of shark conservation, and
with the objective to speak up for sharks and raise
awareness for conservation efforts. I wanted to inspire
others to get involved and strive to protect sharks and
fight to restore their populations.
When I began working on my Girl Scout
Gold Award (the most prestigious award that a Girl
Scout can earn), I realized I could tie my Instagram
account into a project that raised awareness for the
plight sharks face and that helped to show people the
beauty behind the jaws, and the importance of having
healthy shark populations in our oceans. Please keep
an open mind as you learn about these apex
predators, and enjoy the project I have put together
for you! We are all interconnected on this planet, and
together, we can save sharks!
