Jim served in Vietnam as a Company Commander. Here, in his words, he used his intuition to challenge the military plan. The soundbite will give you the same information.
“I was assigned to a combat assistance brigade to support an Army of Vietnam Infantry Division. I was company commander and we were to train and help their people. I’d listen to the Brigade Commander meeting with the Vietnamese Generals and they would listen to what the intelligence was and make military plans to go do it and it just didn’t seem to make sense to me. I kind of accepted it, and over the course of a couple of months I felt I was losing far too many people and we were getting bloodied.
