pay for his college education as long as he stayed with it. He went off to his first year and flunked out.
When he came home Sandra (who was then divorced from Allan) told Jason that he had several months to find a job and a place to live. As it turned out, the time was up in February and true to her promise, Sandra asked Jason to leave. It was below zero degrees outside at the time and Jason’s car had broken down so he walked to the nearest grocery store and called a friend.
Sound tough? Yes, it was, but Jason went on to his true love, law enforcement, where he graduated at the top of his class and went on to be a deputy in Grand Junction, CO.
As you might assume from such an experience, it took a number of years before mother and son healed their relationship. And heal it they did. I don’t believe I’ve ever experienced a relationship as solid as the two of them had developed over the years.
It was so solid that, years later after Jason was happily married with a young son, he got Sandra into backpacking. After several backpacking adventures, Sandra asked Jason if he wanted to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with her. He agreed and both mother and son spent a year training for the “Mom and Son Adventure of a Lifetime.”
