Moving to better feeling thoughts
This exercise is great when you’re feeling stress and have negative feelings. You want to move to more peaceful, positive feelings.
Start with the specific negative thought or feeling that has you upset.
Instead of simply reaching for the better feeling thoughts, start by stating some general negatives (see example). These statements, although negative, don’t have as much energy.
Then move from general negative to general positive. After several statements that are generally positive, see if you can move to something specifically
positive about the situation.
Example
I was very upset because my 51 year-old daughter, who has been an absolute star all her life, (has a very successful business, great family, founder of women’s entrepreneurial club, straight A’s through high school and college, Stanford Business School, etc.) had to go to jail for 100 days because of two DUI offenses.
