I know one poker player who literally can gage his attitude at the time of play and, given that intuitive attitude, wins far more often than not. When he knows he is not in that state, he declines play.
The intuitive mind provides a good poker player decision points along the way.
Intuition is not the whole story in poker or life
The real key is integrating intuition with intellect. The other part of the poker game is played by the rational mind to make go or no go decisions based on risk versus reward conscious calculations.
For example, a great poker player intuits, through a combination of past and current experiences with opponents.
The player then intellectually calculates, based on the amount of the bet (risk), the size of the pot (reward) and the general probability of drawing a winning card.
Although this is a straight-forward business decision process that considers risk versus reward, it is driven by intuition supplemented by intellect. Clearly, this way of being is not limited to the poker table.
I was fascinated to learn that two members of Barack Obama’s winning presidential campaign team in 2008 were professional poker players!
