of using SIP

BVy Gary Audin
endors of SIP based products and
service providers promote Session
Initiation Protocol (SIP) as the uni-
versal technical solution for Voice over IP
(VoIP) signaling. SIP is a benefit to VoIP
technologies such as SIP phones and SIP
trunks. Understanding what SIP is and how
it benefits the business is necessary knowl-
edge so the greatest benefits can be accrued.
SIP is a standard signaling protocol,
commonly implemented for VoIP. It is also applied to a wide range of devices
beyond VoIP; such as supporting video,

forms of media. The development of SIP
has brought a level of standardization to IP
phones and trunking. Learning the value
and operation of SIP is important to anyone
working in the field of communications and
collaboration.

capabilities, Flash’s reign is waning, and
WebRTC will change the mobile experi-
ence in ways that Flash never managed to.
Flash and the Phone

From its very first debut, the iPhone
never supported Flash. Steve Jobs later confirmed that there were no plans to ever
support Flash on any iOS device, preferring
