Expense Management (TEM) in 2020
connectivity
Cast a wide net when determining the scope of your practice; communication technology inclusion should be the priority to achieve optimal expense management results. To that end, designing an inclusive expense management practice may require
multiple internal workgroups, multiple managed and professional services vendors, and multiple software platforms to address the growing scope of technology included in the practice. These diverse elements are unified by processes that guide human and system interactions.

The ‘T’ in TEM less important to discuss than the business value of the practice. Expense management will continue to grow as technology evolves, new use cases emerge, and businesses transform. Future-proof
your TEM practice today by including all communications technology. n

The industry acronym TEM is traditionally known by most
to reference ‘telecom expense management’. Over the past several years the acronym has morphed into ‘technology expense management’ in an effort to include a broader class of communications technology than traditional telecom. Whether you prefer telecom or technology in your acronym definition, understanding the scope of a mature expense management practice is essential for every organization.
A mature practice delivers visibility and enables control of all technical, financial, operational, and business aspects of the communications estate. The practice includes people, processes, and technology that work in harmony to manage the lifecycle of technology spanning:
n Telecom (voice and data) services, hardware, and software providing WAN, internet, voice, and video connectivity
n Mobility (cellular/wireless) services, hardware, and software associated with cellular communications
n IT services, systems, software, licenses, equipment, and peripherals providing private, public, and cloud network
                                                           Stop Unwanted Robocalls
Unwanted robocalls have gone from a nuisance to a serious problem:
• There were 3.4 billion robocalls in April 2018—the biggest month ever.
• The Do-Not-Call list isn’t working.
• Perpetrators are neighbor-spoofing with fake caller IDs to trick
people into answering their robocalls.
• Robocalls are filling carrier networks, yet call completion rates are down because people aren’t answering their phone calls—higher costs, lower revenues.
