India has moved away from the shackles of the
British Raj and has created her own niche in the 75 YEARS OF
world today. An ever-growing driving force in 12
the world economy and much-applauded INDEPENDENCE.
growth in diversified fields make India a much-
respected leader in the world today.
In a male-dominated society, gender issues CELEBRATING
have been predominant, not allowing the
women in India to contribute equally to the
growth of this great nation. We are doing well in MULTIFACETED
education, but the gender ratio at birth is
where the decline is seen. A major percentage
of women in India today are not taught to stand WOMEN
on their feet when they grow up but are instead
pressurised or channelled into home life and
are forced to choose between their families
and careers.
We have evidence to show women make good leaders. To find a solution to this issue, the gender
imbalance has to be rectified. Girls should be given equal rights according to the will of their parents.
This will bring about a change, a lot for good. This will combat the dowry system, and the country will
see a bigger and better change. The Indian Constitution guarantees equal rights to women, but in
reality, it is not practised.
India has a low female labour force participation rate; if this were to improve and better opportunities
were given, this would have a significant impact and result in considerable growth for the Indian
economy. Gender equality has to be improved. Science and technology are crucial to the country’s
development, as are the women working here. However, there has been a significant increase in the
number of women entrepreneurs.
Many women have represented India on a global stage in regard to climate change, emerging as
saviours of the environment. Women are often treated as risk-averse human beings. Moreover, women
are prime workers in this economy; hence, it is to be duly noted that the overall functioning of the
country is directly related to women working in the care economy. India is a mother, and to justify that
statement, give our women their rights and equality.
