ion: Follow these steps to help a choking adult:
Help a Choking
Adult Step Action

1 If you think someone is choking, ask, "Are you choking?" If he nods
yes, tell him you are going to help.

Get behind him. Wrap your arms around him so that your hands
3 are in front.

Make a fist with 1 hand.

6 Put the thumb side of your fist slightly above his belly button and
well below the breastbone.

Grasp the fist with your other hand and give quick upward thrusts
into his abdomen.

Give thrusts until the object is forced out and he can breathe,
cough, or talk, or until he stops responding.

Action: If someone is choking and is in the late stages of pregnancy or is very large
Help a Choking and you can't wrap your arms fully around the waist, give thrusts on the chest,
Large Person or instead of thrusts on the abdomen.
Pregnant Woman
Follow the same steps except for the location where you place your arms and
24 hands. Put your arms under the armpits and your hands on the lower half of the
breastbone. Pull straight back to give the chest thrusts.
