P. 9
Set Operations: Intersection
The intersection of two sets A and B, denoted by A ∩ B, is the
set of all elements that are in both A and B. This operation
identifies the common elements between two sets.
For example, if A = {1, 2, 3} and B = {3, 4, 5}, then A ∩ B = {3}. The
intersection operation is also commutative, meaning A ∩ B = B
∩ A.
1 Definition
A ∩ B contains elements present in both A and B
2 Example
If A = {1, 2, 3} and B = {3, 4, 5}, then A ∩ B = {3}
3 Property
Intersection is commutative: A ∩ B = B ∩ A
