 Symptoms

 Mastitis affects 1% of women after Childbirth

Source of infection may be from hands of patient, personnel caring for patient,

baby's nose, or throat, or blood-borne.

Symptoms:

 Fever

 Fatigue

 headache

 Aches, chills, or other flu-like symptoms

 Redness, tenderness, warm , and edema of the breast

 A burning feeling in the breast

 A hard feeling or tender lump in the breast

 Pus draining from the nipple

 Swollen lymph glands in the arm

 Localized breast pain

Predisposing factors :

 Obstructed milk duct

 Engorgement

 Cracked, sore nipple

 Poor nutrition

 Trauma

 Tight bra
