Malpresentations
Malpresentations and malposition appear to be associated with
any factors that prevent the fetus from physically assuming the
cephalic presentation.
Examples of these factors are preterm labor or prematurity, in
which the fetus is so small that is does not well in the pelvis. Large
pelvic capacities, and lax pelvis muscle as seen in multiparous
woman. Other factors associated with malposition or
malpresentation include uterine anomalies, fetal malformations,
pelvic tumors, and placenta obstructing birth canal.
Malposition and malpresentation carry a high incidence of risk to
both mother and fetus.
Types:
1- Occipto-posterior position
2- Face presentation
3- Brow presentation
4- Breech presentation
