 ing his way
Max Teply has faced many challenges, but he doesn’t let them dominate his life.
these modifications may seem like they could get in the way of his learning, he doesn’t let them. He takes advanced classes and is in two bands this year.
This year Max is taking Concert band, Jazz band, and Journalism 1 as his electives. In concert band he plays the clarinet and in Jazz Band he plays the piano. He has a lot of expertise with the clarinet. Last year when he tried out for all the instruments, the clarinet was just the one that he performed the best. He decided to play the piano in jazz band because his mom had always wanted him to learn how to play the piano.
“I really like music in general, and playing music is a part of that,” Max says. One of Max’s favorite things is actually country music. He loves this style of music and claims it is just plain better than other
music including rap.
“I like country music, even though I
know not many people do these days. I’m just not a fan of that rap nonsense people listen to. For me, I can barely understand what they are saying,” Teply says.
Max also enjoys following sports including football, baseball, and basketball, and rock climbing. His family is into sports, and he has grown up with it.
“My brother plays baseball and my sister plays softball, so it kind of just runs in the family,” he said.
He also enjoys rock climbing at a local spot called “On the Edge.”
Max would like to join more clubs and be more involved in other events on campus. This way he can feel more like he is part of a community here. In the
future however, he would like to follow his dreams of working in the sports industry.
“If I had a choice and I could be anything I wanted to be, I’d be a sports executive, one who manages teams and things. I’d be that or a sports journalist,” said Max.
Max also enjoys reading and writing, so he takes Journalism 1 with Mr. Vickers. He finds Journalism exceedingly fun, and hopes to go into the field one day.
He would like to be a sports journalist due to his interest in reading, writing, and athletics.
“I like listening to books and write about stuff I enjoy,” Max remarked.
His interest in Fantasy Football has contributed to his dream of leading a sports franchise.
“That’s kind of a very small scale version of being an executive, so I think that would be something I would have an interest in doing,” said Max.
In the meantime he hopes that people at our school and his peers will understand that even though he has a few things
in life that could be seen like a setback to some people, he doesn’t
let it affect him.
“I just wish
people knew
that I like sports
and other normal things.” said Max. “I
like the things that normal kids like. Being the way I am doesn’t make me helpless.”
