Eight grader Max Teply has been through many challenges in his life. However, he does his best to not let them dominate his experience at home or at school.
Teply went to elementary school at Quest, where he was on QTV- the school’s morning news. He did this all throughout the sixth grade year, and enjoyed both the tech and reporting parts of the experience. He was very excited to go to middle school. He immediately knew that he wanted to come to Edgewood.
“I thought it was going to be harder than going to one of the mainstream schools. More challenging,” Teply said.
This year at Edgewood so far, Max has had an extremely positive experience with his teachers, schedule, and academics. He has had challenging classes and has excelled in all of them. He is fond of each class, especially Algebra, which he excels at. However, seventh grade was a bit more challenging for him academically. The process of adjusting to a new school was hard for him, as it is for most people.
“The beginning of last year was at first a bit hard having seven classes. But eventually you get used to it and it’s a great school,” Teply said.
Being at Edgewood, Max also has a few complications. He needs someone to help him translate his schoolwork into braille. Over the summer, Max came to Edgewood so that he could learn how to get around Edgewood easily. As he is visually impaired, and he cannot see to get around, he had to learn to memorize his paths. This way, he had the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of our school and have an easier time navigating. While
