Mariah Biddle
Mariah Biddle is a former student of Edgewood who graduated in 2013. She later went on to Eastern Florida State College, where she got a degree studying Crime Scene Technology and received a vocational certification for corrections. She is now a Deputy and really enjoys her job.
“My job has a great retirement and benefits but with that it comes a price. Law enforcement is hard on people physically and mentally. We see a lot of difficult things so I would recommend it but to the right person,” Biddle states.
Biddle recently changed positions and will now be working with therapy rescue dogs, helping to train them and prepare them to help people.
“Eventually they will be trained into therapy animals for law enforcement, children with disabilities, and veterans,” said Biddle.
Mary Vickers
Mary Vickers is a graduate of 2016. Attending Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, she is going to college to study International Relations. She is also a Spanish double major, with a minor in Cultural Anthropology.
“If someone is interested in anthropology, especially activist anthropology research, then I would say go for it! The world needs more anthropologists! It is more rewarding than anything I have ever done. You get to learn so much about different communities, listen to people’s stories, and do what you can to join them in their fight for equality. I am so lucky that I get to do it,” said Vickers.
Vickers would recommend that every senior take a breath.
“Edgewood prepared me for college by teaching me how to balance lots of challenging assignments. My AP classes were actually more difficult than some of the classes I took my freshman year at Rollins. Also, my senior project and paper were super helpful in learning how to do longer research projects. A lot of my peers coming into Rollins had never written a long paper before, so Edgewood put me ahead of the game,” said Vickers.
Madison Roth
Madison Roth is a student at the University of South Florida who graduated in the class of 2017. At USF, she is currently studying Civil Engineering. She decided to study this because of her prior skills. She hopes to one day be an aerospace engineer.
“I decided to go into Civil Engineering because in high school I did really well in Mr. Johnston’s calc AB and BC classes, and I was also pretty good at art and design. I decided Civil Engineering was the best combination of these two aspects of interest and it has worked out so well!”
So far college life has been great for Roth. She is a campus tour guide, was able to travel with the school to Germany, and is loving her program of study. She adjusted to this new lifestyle quickly by making sure she was organized and managing her time well.
Being at involved at Edgewood and taking AP classes helped her prepare for the “hustle and bustle” of her college life.
“I would tell the graduating seniors that the decisions you make this year are not permanent. Don’t stress about your future, because any decision can be changed if needed. Work hard this year and enjoy it, because it will be gone before you know it!”
