them. Last week he was walking by a child who was drawing in a book full of other drawings. Forschino said he stopped and talked to the child about drawing, about how good the drawings were, and about how drawing could be a part of the child’s future -- a career even. “Each person brings a passion, a quality, a gift. One of our best gifts is time. Use that time to encourage and build up, not tear down,” he said.
Forschino is also a cheerleader in that he sings the praises of the entire team at Brevard After School. The administrative team is not sitting behind a desk at the District office. “We go out to sites. We coach. We mentor. We talk about organization,” Forschino said. “We help the sites set up the activity centers.
Forschino has a history of building students up. He shares a story of a boy he worked with years ago who didn’t have many friends in the program and was always off by himself. Forschino picked up a football and asked the boy to play catch. He did this every day and
“Over the last couple of years, STEM has become very big.
For me, I love science,” he said. “NASA and the Florida After School Network inspired me to look at how we can infuse STEM into afterschool programs. The Astronaut Memorial Foundation worked with us to provide professional development for our staff. They visited school sites with specialists and astronauts to get our staff and students excited.”

Forschino’s love of science comes after years working in the technology field. He is an accomplished singer and musician and loves to combine all of his talents when he works with students. One of his first jobs at Brevard After School had him setting up a recording studio at Harbor City Elementary in Melbourne and giving kids a chance both at the microphone and behind the scenes.
invited Forschino to his graduation ceremony at Eau Gallie High.
He thinks the most important thing is when he really listens to students and gets to know
The cheerleading continues with the accolades bestowed upon Brevard After School for its programming by state and national organizations. Brevard After School offers an affordable, safe, comfortable environment with programs tied to each schools’ plan of study. “We really focus on the whole child,” Forschino explained. “If I can personally make a difference in the life of that child, I’m happy.” BPS couldn’t ask for a better cheerleader.
