Tropical Elementary students promote peace.
Merri  Island High
Merri  Island High StangSat Club members are establishing themselves as district leaders in engineering through their partnership with NASA to learn the engineering-design process and build a satellite. The club’s small satellite, known as a CubeSat, will measure launch-
StangSat sponsor, the satellite has been tested and the
team passed a Mission Readiness Review on Oct. 20. A er mee ng a few more milestones, the satellite will be ready for launch, which is scheduled for no earlier than April 30, 2018.
Beatovich said, “Although they are learning how to design and build a CubeSat, the process can be applied to anything later in life – a radar system, an airplane, a boat, a car, a house, a washing machine. To be learning this process in high school is incredible.”
  The StangSat Club prepares for CubeSat mission.
Tropical Elementary
The TK-1 class at Tropical Elementary on Merri  Island is promo ng peace through their PEACEwings ini a ve. The students made paper bu er ies with peace symbols and messages to share around the world. The students and other par cipants posted their messages and photos on a dedicated website and then mailed the PEACEwings to others so they can con nue the process. This project also supports reading, wri ng and social studies standards.
Saturn Elementary
Saturn Elementary’s Joani Slawson was named as one of 25 semi nalists in the na on for a music educator GRAMMY. This award recognizes teachers who have made a signi cant and las ng contribu on to the  eld of music educa on and who demonstrate a commitment to the broader cause of maintaining music educa on in schools.
“Ms. Slawson not only delivers outstanding
music instruc on daily to our students at
Saturn, but is a music educa on icon in the
community. She serves as Director of Brevard
Youth Chorus and is the Director for Florida Elementary Music Educators,” said Janice Rutherford, principal of the Cocoa school.
In December, Slawson will  nd out if she made it to the next round as one of ten  nalists. “It is a tremendous honor to be named as a semi nalist for a music educator Grammy among all of the amazing music teachers throughout our na on,” said Slawson.
  Joani Slawson was as a GRAMMY nominee.
   University Park Elementary
On Nov. 3, Burlington Stores, Inc., through its partnership with AdoptAClassroom.org, donated $10,000 to University Park Elementary in celebra on of its new store in Melbourne. The dona on will provide $333 in new supplies for each teacher’s classroom.
Ana Diaz, principal of the Melbourne school, said, “Our teachers look forward to using the funds to enhance
learning in
our school
and in their
classrooms.
We are
thankful
for the
support we
received from
Burlington and AdoptAClassroom.org.”
