Golden Flying Snake
Also known as the golden tree snake, this
flying snake is thought to be mildly venomous. Despite its name, this snake usually has green or greenish-yellow bands that crisscross over a black background. They are found in India, Sri Lanka, and most of Southeast Asia, and they are most often found on large trees in thick forests. These snakes are very shy and tend to escape danger
by gliding away to a nearby tree.
This beautiful polka-dotted
snake spends all of its time in trees in many island countries
in southeastern Asia. When it is ready to move to another tree, instead of slithering to the ground like other snakes, it
will go to the top of its tree, then jump off and glide gracefully to the next tree. Once the slender snake has lifted off, it can cover
a distance of about 328 ft. (100 m). That’s almost the distance of an entire American football field!
