Heartwarmers
Not all news is bad news.
Story by Rhiannon Drysdale and Milan Sween
Generator Man
In the wake of Hurricane Dorian, Jacksonville resident Mr. Alec Sprague was going about his everyday post- hurricane business. Which is to say, buying a gasoline-powered generator at Costco. It was then that Sprague noticed something, or more specifically someone, purchasing a few more.
Another man, whose identity is unknown, was purchasing not one, not two, but over one hundred generators to send to the Bahamas. The Bahamas were hit much harder than Florida was, to put it lightly, and both he and Sprague knew it.
“I felt compelled to say thank you and shake his hand. Told him I have friends of the family that have family in the Bahamas that they have not heard
School Spirit
Edgewood is far from being the only school with spirit days, and Altamonte Elementary School in Altamonte Springs is certainly one of them. It was college colors day, and one boy in Ms. Laura Snyder’s fourth grade class was so excited that he made his own T-shirt to represent the University of Tennessee.
However, his excitement soon gave way to shame when some other students decided to make fun of him for his homemade shirt. Snyder—no relation to our Ms. Elizabeth Snyder— was not happy with this. She posted about the incident on Facebook, adding thatshewasgoingtobuyhimanofficial UT shirt and asking if anyone knew anyoneaffiliatedwiththeuniversityto perhaps make it extra special.
When the university in question got wind of the situation, they did a lot more
from yet,” Sprague said. “[I] wanted him to know it was appreciated.”
Sprague posted about this on Facebook without sharing the identity of this man, and by the time he arrived home he learned
from others that this
was the real thing.
This man was buying
over one hundred gasoline-powered generators to help the Bahamas. As if this was
not already impressive enough, one more thing:
the generators in question are listed on Costco’s website for $449.99.
than just make it a little bit extra special. They sent the student a care package filled with all sorts of UT merch and took hisshirtdesign, makingitintoanofficial shirt available on their website with the proceeds being donated to charity. They also offered him guaranteed admission and a full-ride scholarship if he meets the University of Tennessee admission requirements come
his high school senior year. “My student has definitely
felt the love and support from people all over the world. It
has been such an awesome week with my class,” Snyder said on Facebook. “The University of Tennessee and
its supporters really outdid themselves. THANK YOU for showing myself, my student, and my class your kindness!”
Needless to say, Snyder’s student was beyond thrilled, and this incident has most likely made him even more enthusiastic about the University of Tennessee.
