Long time BPS bus driver, William Wright, 63, known to all as “Mr. Bill” died on April 20, 2017. Many remembrances were shared with the transportation department to commemorate his passing.
“He was a good man with a huge heart and a smile every time you saw him. He will be missed by so many. When Satellite’s baseball coach, Jason Arnold, told his team that Mr. Wright had passed, he said that every player was sobbing,” said Linda Anderson, athletic director at Satellite High. “He was loved by all of the kids who were lucky enough to know him. He was the only driver that I can recall who was continually requested for trips by teachers and coaches.”
“Over the many years that he provided his great service to our community, numerous Gemini parents also had Mr. Bill as their bus driver when they were students. The close bond he
created with families was truly special,” said Gemini Elementary principal, Joseph Loffek. “Mr. Bill also extended his great service to field trips and athletics. Not only did he take great pride in driving our athletes, he loved to stay and watch them compete in the game. Mr. Bill was truly an outstanding servant and he will be greatly missed.”
Burt Clark, assistant principal at Hoover remembers, “In my first year as an administrator, I was put in charge of
bus registration. Needless to
say, I was very unprepared. If not for Mr. Bill I would have sunk that
day, but he stayed with me the whole registration day and went above and beyond to help.”
“The kids always
watched when Bill started growing out his beard as we neared the Christmas season because
he would drive his bus pretending to be Santa Claus,” said Gemini teacher, Kim Bliss. “He has truly left an amazing legacy for us at Gemini and in the Melbourne Beach community.”
