P. 2
Dear students and fans,
I want to take a moment to tell you about some of the happenings here at Brevard Adult Education.
As we reflect on the 17-18 school year, I am amazed at our accom- plishments. But let’s talk about the future. We have a new Advanced Manufacturing and Welding Train- ing Center coming to our Clearlake
Campus. We are going to start some additional train- ing opportunities in the culinary arts and automotive repair. We are restructuring our community education classes. We are starting and including an apprentice- ship program for those interested in the construction trades. We are starting some cohort scheduling for our GED programs and expanding our offerings in our online ESL programs. It seems the list goes on and on!
We are proud trailblazers and trendsetters in our field and proud that you are the beneficiary. I am always
looking for new ideas that will make us the best program in America. Please send them my way!
I want to hear them! Always stop me on my visits to the campuses and in the community.
I hope to see everyone at graduation on June 28th
at Merritt Island High School. And of course, we look forward to seeing you in the fall. The first day of class is August 13, 2018.
Always continue to improve your skills! It will expand your opportunities. In fact, I am going back to school myself to get my Doctorate Degree. Each day you all inspire each other, our staff, and myself. Keep improv- ing, evolving, and living your dreams. Don’t back down! Educationally Yours,

contemporary material, which is both relevant and usu- ally more interesting than the typical books and films students have read in school.
Students even have the
chance to become pub- lished authors with the Write Brain Books program.
Perhaps best of all, our small class sizes allow teachers to give one-on-one attention to students on a regular basis. Students will not feel
like just another number at Brevard Adult Education. Instead, each stu- dent will finally feel like they have a chance to earn a diploma and what they’ve wanted for years: a future.
Education is for everyone. It is a necessary and critical component of any person’s life. However, that is not to say that everyone can and should receive an education in the same manner. Each individual brings a unique set of challenges, strengths, and values that the traditional educational experience does not always cater to very well. This is where Brevard Adult Education comes in. With our unique program that offers diverse instruc- tion, every student that walks through the door will have the opportunity to have their needs met on an individual level.
Every mandatory subject found in the traditional high school is provided here, so students can pick up wher- ever they left off and continue their education. While our program is primarily software-based, every student will be engaged in a multitude of activities and ex- periences that go beyond, as one student put it, “the usual Shakespeare stuff”. Students learn about poetry through songs, not just reading dry poems in a book or on a computer screen. Learning about metaphors and symbolism with songs serves as contextual learning
so students can see academic topics connected to a re- al-world example such a song writers using metaphors and symbolism in their lyrics. Remember that particu- lar movie scene that stood out or better yet, was a bit confusing? Much like songs, there’s more under the surface and students learn about academic topics with
