BELTEX SCOTLAND CLUB REPORT

www.beltex.co.uk
This time of year, again, it seems to come round quicker!!
I hope when you read this that lambing went well and the
weather is being kind to us all.
A slightly quieter year for Beltex Scotland was had in 2023, still
some great highlights for many members but no extra events
were held.
Royal Highland Show
The Royal Highland Show was a great success for many
exhibitors who had travelled the length of Britain to come and
show under the watchful eye of Mary Dunlop, Corstane flock.
Mary picked her Champion in Liam Swinnerton’s Lipley ram
lamb with Paul Tippets and Gerwyn Jones ewe lamb from the
Pager flock in Reserve.
As always, the club held a social for all members following the
judging. The lamb rolls were kindly donated by Corstane, they
went down a treat. A great time was had by all, even into the
small hours of Saturday morning.
National Show
Our national show was held at Biggar in July. A massive turnout
of top-quality sheep was put in front of our judge Jock McMillan,
Clary.
Jock picked his Champion in Alan Miller’s Lurg gimmer with the
second prize gimmer from Andrew Morton, Mortons, following
her all the way. The Male Champion was Andrew Baillie’s
Callacrag home-bred shearling and Reserve was Andrew
Morton’s second prize shearling.
Following the judging, we held a lunch for all exhibitors which
was great as we all watched the inter-breed sheep judging which
was going on, judged by David Cunningham, Walkerdyke. It was
Alan Miller’s day, his Lurg gimmer was Supreme Sheep Inter-
breed Champion and to top the show off, the gimmer won the
whole show – Champion of Champions 2023! Well done to Alan
Miller, stockman Finn Christie and all the Miller family, a great
achievement.
