Robert Parsons, PhD. Robert (Bob) is a Professor in the Civil, Environmental, and Architectural
Engineering Department at the University of Kansas. He came to KU in 1998 after finishing
his PhD in Civil Engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology with an emphasis in
geotechnical engineering. He also has BS and MS degrees in geological engineering from
the Missouri University of Science and Technology. In addition to teaching at the graduate
and undergraduate level, Dr. Parsons has an active research program with emphases
on mechanically stabilized earth, soil stabilization, aggregate testing, deep foundations,
and railroad ballast characterization and improvement. He is an author of more than 100
publications. He has been working for over six years with the Kansas Department of Transporation on the
      performance of retaining wall backfill.

Stan Peters, PE. Stan is a professional engineer registered in three states, and has 36 years
of experience in the construction and engineering fields. He earned his B.S. and MS. in Civil
Engineering at Colorado State University, with graduate work in geotechnical and structural
engineering, while teaching concrete courses. He earned an MBA and M.S.-Finance from
the University of Colorado at Denver. Much of his professional experience has been with
aggregate production and engineering firms specializing in construction materials; his areas
of expertise also include gravel-pit water storage, concrete, aggregates, fly ash, product
development & marketing. He was a principal investigator for two private concrete
research studies for CDOT. He holds four US patents in water storage, and nine other material patents with fly
ash products. He is currently the owner of Castle Rock Consulting, LLC for twelve years, providing materials’
research and development for cellular grouts and specialty fills. He also provides concrete professional and
forensic services, and expert witness for litigation work.

Kyle Rollins, PhD, MASCE. Dr. Rollins received his BS degree from Brigham Young University
and his Ph.D. from the University of
                        California at Berkeley. After working
                        as a geotechnical consultant, he
                        joined the Civil Engineering faculty
at BYU in 1987 following his father
                        who was previously a geotechnical
                        professor. His research has involved
      geotechnical earthquake engineering, deep foun-
dation behavior, bridge abutment behavior, collaps-
ible soils, and soil improvement techniques. His work
typically involves full-scale testing to evaluate and im- Stan Peters, PE - Principal
prove the performance of bridges and buildings. The
American Society of Civil Engineers has recognized Licensed in CO, WY, TX
his work with the Huber research award, the Welling-
ton prize, and the Wallace Hayward Baker Award. In StanPetersPE@aol.com
2009, he was the Cross-Canada Geotechnical lec-
turer for the Canadian Geotechnical Society. He re- (303) 947-5828
