Department of Maritime Information

         and Technology

           Introduction
The department is a unique cross-discipline department combining maritime and information technology in Taiwan,
which was originally founded to be the “Institute of Navigation Science and Technology” in 2006, renamed to “Institute
of Maritime Information and technology” in 2010, and further reformed to "Department of Maritime and Information
Technology" including the undergraduate, graduate, and in-service master’s program.
To be a marine nation like Taiwan, with the progress of advanced marine technology and marine related industry, it is
necessary to design integral courses with maritime and information technology to cultivate talents. The specialties
developed by this department include marine meteorology and climate change, ocean wave model and numerical
simulation, underwater robots and exploration, spatial database and big data analysis, and various information technology
           applications.

           The Aims of Education
¬Following the national marine policy and information technology development, the department cultivates industrial
practices and research talents with cross-discipline integrating maritime and information technology as well as focusing
on innovation and practical application capabilities. Our vision is to develop high-tech professionals involving in the
research and development in marine technology to improve the marine industry and build international competitiveness.

           Department Features
The department fosters industrial practices and research talents with cross-discipline equally emphasizing on maritime
and information technology as well as focusing on innovation and practical application capabilities. The programs
           include:
Undergraduate program: there are there major subjects including marine science, maritime information application, and
digit-content application. The courses are cross-discipline. Students are comprehensively educated with maritime science
and information application to present using the mode of digital content and improve ability in maritime information
technology, which create their future job opportunities to be professional engineers.
Graduate program: the courses includes marine science, marine engineering technology, numerical simulation,
information application, and navigation practice, providing graduate students with the advanced knowledge of maritime
information either for research or practical work.
In-service master’s program: the department provides the courses for those who work in maritime practitioners,
vocational teachers, Coast Guard Administration, navy, and senior management in maritime companies to communicate
with their experiences and academic researches to develop the capability in advanced industrial applications.
