Department of Telecommunication
Engineering
Introduction
This department was formerly the Department of Telecommunication Engineering of National Kaohsiung Marine
University of Science and Technology. It was originally established as a five-year program Ship Communication
Department in 1970. In line with the school’s upgrading and restructuring project, it was reorganized into a four-year
education system. In 2009, the department subsequently established the graduate school of Telecommunication
Engineering. In February 2018, National Kaohsiung University of Applied Sciences, National Kaohsiung First
University of Science and Technology and National Kaohsiung Marine University of Science and Technology
merged into National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, under the instruction of Ministry of
Education.
The department currently has four-year bachelor program for day school, master program, and four-year bachelor
program for continuing education.
The Aims of Education
Adhering to the concept of information communication without borders, this department has set its educational goals
based on this purpose.
¬Cultivate professional engineering talents who have professional knowledge of electronic communication, can
combine theory and practice, and also have critical thinking, self-learning, and R & D and innovation ability.
¬Cultivate students to learn communication and coordination skills, teamwork spirit and engineering ethics through
thematic production or industry-academia cooperation. Also, to build student’s international perspective and
multiple thinking qualities.
Department Features
1. In order to responds to the fast development of next-generation communication technology, our training covers the
fields of next-generation communication, wireless radio frequency communication, smart communication, ship
communication, satellite communication, image recognition, image processing, antenna design and other relative
fields.
2. Our Department cooperates with marine characteristics to develop marine and communication applications and
combines artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve the future 5G era.
3. We value the combination of theory and practice and strengthen the comprehensive results of practical teaching
via the industry-academia cooperation relationship with the industry.
4. Cultivate students to develop team spirit through project practice to improve future working team efficiency.
Career Directions
According to the features of this department, our students has enough ability to fit into different development of
workplace categories such as communication system construction, communication equipment development, antenna
design, circuit design, artificial intelligence, image recognition, image processing software, and hardware
development .
