Ph.D. Program in Engineering Science

          and Technology, College of Engineering

             Program Introduction

This doctoral program was first established in Fall 2001. After the merging of three universities in 2018, this program
preserves the integrative feature to combine close to 60 faculty members from three engineering departments of the
College of Engineering at the First Campus of the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology to maximize
the education resources. The program consists of four specialized fields: Mechatronics Engineering, Construction
Engineering, Safety Health and Environmental Engineering, and Engineering Management. The students studied in this
program can select courses and seek academic advice from interdisciplinary fields. The doctoral program aims to achieve
the goal of first-class academic research and industrial applications by the close collaboration of professional
administrative staff and outstanding academic faculty.

             The Aims of Education
To cultivate higher engineering professionals with independent organizing and execution capabilities.
             Program Features

1.This program integrates the engineering related doctoral programs at the First Campus including the departments of
Mechatronics Engineering, Construction Engineering, and Safety Health and Environmental Engineering. This
doctoral program jointly admits students from four research fields to maximize the education resources and to
            encourage interdisciplinary collaboration.
2.The teaching and research in this program focus on theoretical research and applied technology featuring technology
integration and balanced development of teaching and research. Meanwhile, the integration of the specialty and
resources from three engineering departments not only aligns with the university’s long-term development plan but
also closely coupled with the development of the nearby Southern Science and Technology Industrial Clusters and
Research Centers. The purpose is to nurture high-quality and forward-looking engineering and scientific talents
            required for academics and industries.
3.The curriculum design seeks to cultivate students' comprehensive engineering expertise, cross-disciplinary
integration, communication and coordination capabilities, forward-looking innovation with an international
perspective, and an open attitude towards lifelong learning.

             Research Features
This program integrates the professional faculty from the College of Engineering at the First Campus of the National
Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology featuring diversified fields of research, advanced research equipment,
and close industry-academia collaboration. The program is supported by many national awarded faculty members such
as the Outstanding Research Award from the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Master Award of Industry-
academia Cooperation from the Ministry of Education, National Distinguished Teaching Award, and Winners of
International Competitions. The doctoral program focuses on both academic research and industrial applications. The
students can also seek co-advising from inter-department professors for interdisciplinary and innovative research
           according to their study interests.
