Department of Industrial Design

Introduction

The Department original name is Department of Innovation Design Engineering, which was established in 2013. In 2017,
renamed the Master Program name as “Master Program in Industrial Design in Department of Innovation Design
Engineering”. In 2019, the department name was changed into the Department of Industrial Design.
The department is Small but complete, having comprehensive equipment and space, friendly learning environment, and
dedicated to talent cultivation with professional knowledge, engineering technology and practical design in order to
enhance the competitive advantage of the department's product design at home and internationally.

Programs

There are 9 faculties in this department, which including 3 Associate Professors, 5 Assistant Professors and 1 Project
Assistant Professor. Currently, undergraduate and postgraduate programs recruited one class per Academic year. The
department purpose is to encourage students to integrate or combine design-specific perspectives in theory and in practice.
For each program has different goals.

Ÿ Undergraduate Program：To cultivate students with specialized knowledge, innovative ability, engineering technology
and experiences of carrying out design projects. Recruited 40 or 50 new students per academic year, in total there are
around 160 students now.

Ÿ Postgraduate Program：To cultivate students with a good humanism quality, technology and innovative ability.
Recruited maximum 14 new students per academic year, in total there are around 20 students now.

Research Topics
From the perspective of industry requirements and the concept of hands-on practice, the department trains each student to
become an expert with solid foundation in design and design skills to meet industry requirements.
In addition to allowing students to learn at different stages of professional knowledge, the Department of Industrial Design
also encourage them to practice innovative products through practical design. The curriculum of the Department of
Industrial Design is planning based on the following four fields:

ü To cultivate students with solid design foundation
ü To cultivate students with ability to design products which can meet with industry requirements
ü To cultivate students with innovative design ability
ü International outlook and the cultivation of foreign language ability

The department of Industrial Design retains original development characteristics after renamed, supplemented by
engineering technology for the design of industrial products, emphasis on functional efficiency improvement, quantitative
analysis and academic paper output. Therefore, the design thinking and the guidance of the engineering technology
framework allow the design thinking to match the project and combine the implementation to enhance the students'
integration ability.
