How did you get into
this industry; any family “connections?
I started getting fascinated in
images firstly through stills photography. Progressing from photography I graduated from Napier University with a BA (Hons) in Photography, Film and Imaging, where I shot several 16mm and digital short films and my graduating film was premiered at the 2004 Edinburgh Film Festival, and screened worldwide.
In 2006 I received a Donald Dewar Arts Award and a scholarship from Kodak to complete a masters in Cinematography at the National Film and Television School.
Who were the most influential
people in your career to date,
i.e. cinematographer; director.
I was mostly influenced by Stills photographers William Eggleston and Martin Parr. But my biggest influence and inspiration comes from the everyday, observing people, situations and new places. Being curious.
What was your favourite job
to date and any unusual anecdotes whilst working?
I couldn’t say which project is my favourite, each one has been different and new.
I don’t really remember many anecdotes but I like the quote by Robert Capa ‘If you’re pictures aren’t good enough, you’re not close enough’.

What are your current and
future projects?
Currently I am in pre-production on a project titled The Bedfords, with artist and filmmakerHenryCoombes,which began filming in Scotland at the end of May beginning of June. In the summer I am
filming a documentary around America called Missing, following pet detectives and their attempts to find missing pets.
What is your experience of working with Fujifilm stock?
My graduation film One In Four,
from the National Film and
Television School was shot on FujifilmSuperF-64DandETERNA 250D. It premiered at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival in June.
