the Cinematography Course at the National Film & Television School and I was accepted. I moved to England in January 2007 to attend the course, which consists of shooting films, commercials and master classes. Since then I have worked on seven short films as a cinematographer, two of which I have also directed. In autumn 2007 I won the “Book Video Awards” competition with my treatment for a promotional film- style trailer for the novel The Outcast (written by Sadie Jones, published by Chatto & Windus 2008). had a really good time. Before I started the course at the NFTS, I helped out as a spark on a shoot in Germany for a few days. The location was a discontinued opencast mining area. We were shooting in the evening, and we were losing light rapidly as the sun was going down behind a hill. Suddenly the DP came up with an idea:
He sent out a spark (luckily not me) with a shovel to go on top of the hill to dig a hole in the hill, so that we would have sunlight for a little longer! It was a bizarre sight, the spark digging frantically, silhouetted against the sun going down behind him.
