Nagata, proved to be the biggest winner at the British Academy Film Awards on February 10, winning four – Leading Actress (Marion Cotillard), Music (Christopher Gunning), Make-Up & Hair (Jan Archibald, Didier Lavergne) and Costume Design (the late Marit Allen).
Diving Bell received the BAFTA for Adapted Screenplay (Ronald Harwood). The Golden Compass, shot on Fujifilm by Henry Braham BSC, won for Achievement in Special Visual Effects (Michael Fink/Bill Westenhofer/Ben Morris/Trevor Woods)
Two other Fujifilm titles, The Killing of John Lennon and Brick Lane, earned their respective directors, Andrew Piddington and Sarah Gavron, nominations for the Carl Foreman first feature award.
Kenneth Branagh’s As You Like It, shot by Roger Lanser on 35mm Fujicolor Super F-500T 8572 and Super F-250T 8552, won Kevin Kline, as ‘Melancholy Jacques’, the SAG Awards’ Leading Actor in a TV Movie or Miniseries. Bryce Dallas Howard was nominated for a Golden Globe as Leading Actress in the same category.
At the 80th Academy Awards,
La Vie En Rose won two from three nominations, for Best Actress and Make-Up, while The Golden Compass

scooped the Oscar for Visual Effects. The Diving Bell and The Butterfly has to be content with just its four nominations, including Cinematography for Polish-born Janusz Kaminski ASC.
There was some consolation for Kaminski, though, when he and Diving Bell director Julian Schnabel picked up two of the prestigious Independent Spirit Awards in Hollywood, generally regarded as an aperitif for the Oscars. ■
